Frequently Asked Questions - Electric Vehicles (EVs)

Are there any incentives for purchasing an EV?

Yes! When you purchase your EV from Mississauga Kia you could be eligible for up to $5,000 in federal rebates.

How do battery electric vehicles (BEV) work?

BEVs run on 100% battery power.

This is beneficial since the absence of internal combustion (gas-powered) engines results in no emissions. Not only does this mean less pollution, but also lower maintenance cost when compared to conventional gas vehicles.

How do I charge my Kia Electric Car (EV)?

There are usually three options for charging your EV or PHEV with the main difference being the speed at which they charge your battery.

Level 1 Chargers: These use a regular 110-volt household outlet. This means you can charge your car from most outlets in your home, though at a slower rate of only 5-9kms of driving range per hour of charging time. If you only make short trips, this option is sufficient for you.

Level 2 Chargers:  Level 2 Chargers use a 240-volt outlet that charges your vehicle at a rate of 25-40 km per hour of charge time.  These can be installed in your home or can also be found in public locations including malls, restaurants and parking garages. These chargers are ideal for drivers who travel more than 80km/day and need a fully recharged vehicle daily.

Level 3 Chargers: These chargers are also known as DC Fast Chargers, which can add 300+ kms of range in approximately 1 hour of charge time. You can find these chargers in high-traffic public areas and can also get them installed at your home if you are a driver who drives longer distances daily.

What is the range of a Kia EV?

Most EVs including Kia's line of electric cars and electric SUVs can achieve ranges of more than 350km on a single charge*. Since the average Canadian driver travels less than 50km/day, any Kia EV can easily meet your daily needs. If you are still worried about running out of juice, you can also consider our line of HEVs and PHEVs which give you the benefits of an electric vehicle, with the peace of mind of a backup gas engine.

If you have any other questions please feel free to book an appointment with one of our team members or feel free to give us a call. We're always happy to help you find the right electric car for your needs.

*To achieve up to 80 percent charge from empty in as little as 54 minutes a level 3 DC fast charger (100Kw) is required to be used with the vehicle’s fast charging port. The time indicated may vary depending on charging conditions and vehicle model.
